The Rooted Approach
One integrated process, not a menu of techniques.
The Rooted Approach integrates EMDR, IFS, and somatic awareness into a single sequenced process: preparation, reprocessing, integration. Most therapy asks you to talk about the pattern. This works with what built it, so change happens where the pattern actually lives.
The Rooted Approach at a glance
Three roots: memory, parts, body. Three phases: preparation, reprocessing, integration. One process, sequenced to your nervous system.
EMDR
ReprocessingReprocesses memories and experiences that remain emotionally frozen. The ones still driving today’s reactions from behind the scenes.
IFS / Parts Work
UnderstandingTreats anxiety, depression, and protective behaviors as parts of your experience, not as your identity. Nothing about you is the problem.
Somatic Awareness
ListeningReads the body and nervous system as a signal system. What your body has been saying often names the pattern before words can.
One integrated process, not three separate services.
One gentle step at a time
-
Preparation
Safety, stability, and a working map of your inner world. Nothing is forced open before you are ready to hold it.
-
Reprocessing
Focused EMDR and parts work around the experiences at the root, at the pace your system can actually integrate.
-
Integration
The change becomes lived, not just understood. New responses, new choices, a self that feels like yours.
Why integrate at all?
Because the pattern doesn’t live in one place
Some of it lives in memory.
Experiences that were overwhelming at the time get stored without being fully processed, and keep generating today’s reactions. That is what EMDR is built to reach: not to erase memory, but to let it finish processing so it can become past tense.
Some of it lives in parts.
The inner critic, the over-functioner, the one who numbs out, IFS understands these as protective parts with histories, not character flaws. When parts feel understood instead of exiled, they stop having to shout.
Some of it lives in the body.
A nervous system shaped by years of bracing doesn’t release because of a good insight. Somatic awareness lets us read, and gradually retrain, the body’s signals, so calm becomes an experience rather than an instruction.
Used together, in the right sequence, these three do what none of them does well alone: prepare the ground, reach the root, and let the change take hold.
We go at the speed your system can integrate, not slower, and never faster.
What to expect
The shape of the work
-
Consultation
A brief call to hear what you’re looking for, answer your questions, and decide together whether this is the right fit. If it isn’t, I’ll say so and point you toward someone who is.
-
Early sessions: the map
We build a shared understanding: your history, your patterns, your strengths, and what you want to be different. You will leave these sessions with language for things you may have only felt.
-
The middle: the root
Focused preparation and reprocessing. Some sessions will feel quiet; some will move more than you expected. Both are normal, and we will pace it together.
-
Integration: the living
Change stops being something that happens in session and starts being how you answer email, set a boundary, or fall asleep. We consolidate it until it holds on its own.
