Practical questions
Everything you’re wondering, answered plainly.
Reaching out is easier when the practicalities are clear. If your question isn’t answered here, ask it directly, I answer my own inquiries.
What happens in a first session?
The first session is a conversation, not an interrogation. We talk about what brought you in, what you have already tried, and what you would want to be different. I will tell you honestly how I think about what you are describing and how I would approach it. You are evaluating fit as much as I am, you should leave with a felt sense of whether this is the right room for you.
How do I know if I need EMDR, or something else?
You do not need to know, that is my job. EMDR is one tool inside a larger process. Some clients benefit from reprocessing specific memories; others need longer preparation and parts work first. In our consultation and early sessions, I will assess what is driving the pattern you are living inside and recommend an approach, explaining my reasoning so you can make an informed choice.
Do you take insurance?
This is a private-pay practice. Sessions are $145 for 55 minutes. Many clients choose private pay for the privacy and flexibility it affords. Upon request, I can provide a superbill you may submit to your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Good Faith Estimates are prepared at the end of the year based on your actual spending for that year.
What are your rates?
Sessions are $145 for 55 minutes. Extended EMDR sessions are available when clinically useful and are priced accordingly. You will receive a financial agreement at the beginning of care outlining fees and policies.
Where are you located? Do you offer telehealth?
I see clients in person in Brentwood and Franklin, Tennessee, and by secure telehealth anywhere in Tennessee. Many clients move between the two, in person when it matters, telehealth when life requires it.
How long does therapy take?
It depends on what we are working with. Some women come for a focused piece of EMDR work around a specific experience and feel complete within months. Deeper patterns, the kind formed in childhood or reinforced over decades, ask for more time. I will always tell you honestly what I think the work requires, and we will revisit that together as we go.
I have tried therapy before and it did not help. Why would this be different?
That history matters, and I want to hear it. Many of my clients arrive after talk therapy that helped them understand their patterns without changing them. Understanding is not the same as shifting. My work combines insight with reprocessing and body-based awareness, so change happens at the level where the pattern actually lives, not only in how you think about it.
Is everything I say confidential?
Yes, with the standard legal and ethical limits of confidentiality in Tennessee, risk of harm to yourself or others, abuse of a child or vulnerable adult, or a court order. I review these limits clearly in our first session and in the informed consent, and I am always willing to answer questions about privacy.
Do you work with couples or men?
My practice is focused on individual therapy with women. If you are looking for couples work or care for a man in your life, I am glad to point you toward trusted colleagues.
How do I get started?
Schedule a consultation through the contact page. We will have a brief conversation about what you are looking for, I will answer your questions, and if it feels like a fit we will schedule a first session. If it is not a fit, I will do my best to refer you to someone who is.
Good Faith Estimates are prepared at the end of the year based on your actual spending for that year.
